My Top 10 Break Up Songs That I Have Been Listening To Recently

Sorry that I haven't posted for a while. I have been having some personal dramas and have been a bit unfocused.

The guy that I have been exclusively dating recently, accidentally sent me a message that was clearly meant for another woman. Yeah, I am pretty furious.

The whole time that we have been seeing each other he has been constantly asking me if I was seeing anyone else, and if I didn't reply to his message in time he would accuse me of being with someone else. I was being faithful to him of course, but now I can see why he kept accusing me of cheating -because he was cheating and knew how easy it is to do it.

Well, I am happy to say that I am not sad. No tears have been shed over this guy. Mind you, I have been absolutely furious and with all this anger, there has been no room for sadness.

To help me get through it, I have been listening to a lot of music. Mainly the "stuff you" kind of break up songs. I am not in the mood for the soppy "I want you back" stuff, only the angry "get the hell out of my life" stuff.

Here is my top 10 list of break up songs that I have been listening to lately:

10. Cry For You -By September

Pretty much sums up how I am feeling at the moment. Actually, this song is how I feel after every break-up (if I have been hurt.) It's quite a sad song, but with a bit of a "F You" undertone.

9. Still Believe -By Tim Cappello

You're probably going to think that I am a dork for liking this song but it is one of my most inspirational post-break up songs. The soundtrack to the movie "The Lost Boys" is probably one of the best movie soundtracks I have ever heard. Remember the song Cry Little Sister by G. Tom Mac? It is one of my favorite songs and I would love to post it, but it really doesn't belong here.

Still Believe by Tim Cappello is also one of my favorite songs. Tim Cappello is in my opinion, one of the best saxophone players ever. He was Tina Turners lead Saxophonist, absolutely amazing. This is the only solo single that I know of, by Tim Cappello. It has to be one of the best songs to listen to when you are down in the dumps and need to get back on your feet.

8. What's Love Got To Do With It -By Tina Turner

Speaking of Tina Turner, the 8th song on my list is "What's Love Got To Do With It" This song is a classic and will never go out of style.

7. Don't Walk Away -By Toni Childs

Ouch. I would not want to be the man that Toni Childs is singing about in this song. Her voice alone is enough to knock any man off his feet.

I have lost count of the number of times that I have lip-synced into my hairbrush to this song, pretending that I had a voice like that. It is an incredibly powerful song. It gets the adrenaline pumping.

6. Ain't Gonna Eat My Heart Out -By The Divinyls

Another woman with an incredible voice. Although it is a little softer than Toni Childs voice, Chrissy Amphlett also has an amazing and unusual voice. The Divinyls is one of my favorite bands and Chrissy Amphlett is one of my favorite singers.

5. Be Mine! -By Robyn

This song isn't really an angry break up song, but it goes in my list because I know that every man, woman, guy and girl has felt this way at least once in their life. Robyn really knows how to write a song that really pulls the heart-strings. I think that everyone can relate to this song at one point in their life.

4. Want -By Natalie Imbruglia

I really would have loved to post the official video to this song, but unfortunately embedding has been disabled by request -or something like that. It's unfortunate because I was actually going to talk about the video clip. Anyways, if you want to see the official video, you can find it here.

In the official video, Natalie Imbruglia is looking absolutely stunning. I am pretty sure this song came out not long after her break up with Daniel Johns from Sliverchair. After watching the official video and hearing the song, I can't help but think that the break up was a lot more messy and hurtful than what the media made it out to be.

I think it is amazing song for when you have been dumped and hurt, the lyric "I hope you get all that you want, because I didn't" really pulls at my heart strings.

3. Paper Romance -By Groove Amarda

I am not actually too sure if this is a break up song. However, I have been listening to it anyway. The lyrics "You can write me a love letter, but there is nothing to say. Don't want to take a chance on a paper romance, anyway" really hit close to home during this break up that I am going through, mainly because it has been a long-distance relationship for most of it. Most of our communication was via skype, phone or message. So I think this song fits.

2. With Every Heart Beat -By Robyn

Robyn again. lets face it, she's really good at break up songs.

This one isn't so angry, and I actually haven't listened to it that much during this break up that I am going through now for that reason. However, it deserves a place on the list because it really is a beautiful break up song.

1. The Break Up Song (They Don't Write 'Em) -By Greg Khin Band

What can I say? What an awesome song. I think everyone should have this one in their mp3 player to listen to after a break up, or even when they aren't going through a break up. The song is just that good.

This is the kind of song that comes on when you are at a bar with your friends, and everyone starts drunkingly  whailing "They don't write 'em like that any more, they just don't write 'em like that any moooooooooore"

Break up or no break up, I am more than happy to listen to this song. Brilliant.

So there are my top 10 break up songs. I did leave a few out, so I might end up making a part 2 of this list later on.

"He's Just Not That Into You" Well Maybe I'm Not That Into Him Either!

It's the catch phrase that took the world by storm since it's appearance on "Sex And The City" The book He's Just Not That Into You by Greg Behrendt is a best seller and has been featured on Oprah. Women all over the world swear by its advice. I have read it myself and found it very empowering. However, as soon as I start really liking someone, everything that I have learned from the book goes out the window.

I start making excuses for my he hasn't called or at least texted me. I ignore obvious signals that he is not interested, and instead look for any tiny hints that he might be still interested. I spend every hour of my day questioning whether he likes me or not, when the truth is, if he liked me and I mean really liked me, then I wouldn't be questioning whether he likes me or not. I would just know.

Men aren't the only ones who like the thrill of the chase. Women like it too, although some of them might not be willing to admit it to themselves. I can't tell you how many times I have turned down Mr Right who was practically throwing himself at me, simply because I was wrapped up in chasing Mr Wrong who showed very little signs of interest. I knew that Mr Right was Mr Right, and Mr Wrong was Mr Wrong but I couldn't help it. My ego already knew that Mr Right was already interested in me, and wanted to know if it could catch Mr Wrongs interest too.

So when Mr Wrong finally got bored with me and moved on, it wasn't my feelings that were hurt, it was my ego. As soon as I learned to let go of my ego, I also learned to let go of Mr Wrong.

One book that I strongly recommend reading is Be Honest--You're Not That Into Him Either: Raise Your Standards and Reach for the Love You Deserve

Travel Overseas (I've Never Done It)

I have never travelled overseas. Yes, you have heard me correctly... I have never travelled overseas. *Gasp*

It's not I haven't wanted to, it's just that I never got around to actually doing it. I have made plans in the past, then something has happened that ruined those plans. I either met someone, and then decided that I didn't want to leave them or I would have gotten myself into financial trouble (surprise, surprise) and end up using the money that I had saved to get myself out of it or I simply couldn't get the time off work and once I stopped working at that particular place and had all the time in the world, I couldn't afford it. There have been other times when I have just had other, more important priorities and there have been times where I have just been a complete mess, and wasn't capable of travelling to the other side of town, let alone the other side of the world.

Yes, I regret not going. Not only for my own personal experience, but also to avoid having people look at me like I have just killed someone when I tell them that I have never been overseas before. You wont believe how often I get this.

I remember telling this to one guy, whom I had dated briefly that I had never been overseas before, and he said right to my face, with a smile "Anyone who hasn't been overseas by this age is an idiot!" Although I admired the fact that he was straight-out with his thoughts, I really wish he had thought about what he said before he had said it.

In my case, he was probably right. I had let certain circumstances in life prevent me from doing something that I wanted to do. However, this isn't the case for everyone. I thought that the comment that he made was quite an ignorant, and arrogant remark.

That wasn't the only time that I have come across people who look down their noses at others who have not travelled overseas. I understand that travelling is important to some people, but why be dickheads about it? You would think that having travelled overseas, these people would know that there are many different types of people on this earth and each one has something to contribute. Apparently not.

Don't get me wrong, I have come across more people who don't look down their noses at me for not having travelled overseas. It's just those few who, when I tell them, look at me like I have just doused a basket of fluffy kittens in gasoline and set them alight, that really bug me.

Just because I haven't been overseas, it doesn't mean that I am not open-minded, or open to experiencing other cultures, or haven't seen amazing things, or haven't got any interesting stories to tell. I know that I would benefit so much by travelling overseas, and plan to do it one day. But being someone who has not yet done it, I still have much to offer and contribute.

I'm Dating Again...

Watch out fellas... *Evil laugh*

I have decided to get back into the dating scene again. I have just gone through a period of a few months where I didn't want to date anyone. I was enjoying being single, and I am still enjoying it. I just feel that since I am enjoying singledom, it is a good time to date. Here is why:

At this point in my life, I feel like I can afford to be picky. I love being single, and you would have to be pretty dam awesome to change that. In the past I have felt lonely, and longed for that special someone. Being in that mind-state has only lead me to heartache. My self worth was low, and because of this, I fell for any guy that fell for me. Whether he was right for me or not. At least now I will be choosy and pick the person who is the right match for me.

Many times even fell for the guy that didn't fall for me, he only seemed to because I was trying to decipher signals that weren't even there, and ended up heartbroken. Sometimes I settled for the guy who fell head-over-heels for me, when I didn't feel the same in return, and in the end, ended up breaking his heart. I honestly don't know which situation is worse.

Although my life is not particularly ideal right now, I have that certain little edge that I have never had before: Self-worth. After all these years, I am finally getting to know myself and I really like what I see.

Most people start to get to know themselves in their teens, well that didn't happen for me until I was in my mid twenties. Before then, I was just a complete mess. I am still a bit of a mess, but I am working on it, and have made a lot of progress and am proud of who I have become.

This level of self-worth is my edge, my secret weapon. My goodness, I wish I had it in the past. Then again, every mistake you make is a lesson and each lesson you learn makes you who you are today.

So my point is, I am dating again. I know my self-worth and because of this, I wont be falling for the next guy that comes along. I feel that I can be choosy, and choose the one who is right for me. I am enjoying being single, I'm not longing for that special someone, I just feel that right now is a good time to start looking. This is the time when I am most likely going to choose the right person, if I meet him. If not well, I am happy to keep being who I am.
